Keep wearing them β beating "drawer syndrome"
A lot of hearing aids end up unused in a drawer. Here's what genuinely helps you stick with them.
Research suggests up to 40% of fitted hearing aids aren't used or don't deliver their full benefit (Cochrane). A Cochrane review (Barker et al., 2016) found the evidence for any single fix is modest, but that support and good follow-up help people keep using their aids successfully. The common reasons people give up β and what helps:
- "They're not comfortable / they whistle." β Don't put up with it. These are almost always fixable with a quick adjustment β come back in.
- "They don't help in noise." β Realistic expectations matter; so do the right settings and tactics above. We can fine-tune them.
- "I forget to wear them." β Build them into your morning routine, like glasses. Consistency is what makes them feel natural.
- Involve your family. Evidence and experience both show that a supportive communication partner improves how well people get on with their aids.
Free fine-tuning and follow-ups are part of looking after you β never struggle on alone.
