Hearing Test in Gateshead

An unhurried hour with an independent, HCPC-registered audiologist at our clinic in Team Valley, or in your own home anywhere in the borough. A full assessment is £50, and it comes straight off the price if you go ahead with hearing aids.

Gateshead's independent hearing clinic

Most hearing tests in Gateshead happen either at the hospital, on a GP referral, or inside a high-street chain at the Metrocentre. We're the other option: one independent audiologist, in a clinic at The Valley Shopping Village on Team Valley, just off the A1 with free parking outside the door.

Being independent means we aren't tied to any manufacturer. If you need hearing aids, we can fit Starkey, Phonak, Oticon, Signia, Widex or ReSound, whichever actually suits your hearing and your budget.

What it costs

What you wantPrice
Full hearing assessment£50, refunded in full against a hearing aid fitting
Ear Health Check (15 min otoscopy, tuning fork, pressure test)£20
Online hearing check, from homeFree
Ear wax removal, both ears, at the clinic£60
Ear wax removal, both ears, at home£80

Why we don't do "free" tests. A free test is still paid for, usually inside the price of the hearing aids that follow it. We take £50 up front and give it back if you go ahead, so nothing we tell you depends on you buying anything. If you don't need aids, you've paid £50 for a straight answer.

If cost is what matters most, ask your GP about the NHS service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It's a good service and we'll happily say so. If you'd rather not wait, or want time to talk and the full choice of aids, that's what we're here for.

What happens at the appointment

1 · We talk

Where does your hearing let you down? Conversations at the table, the TV, the phone, the club? The answer shapes everything after it.

2 · We look in both ears

A video otoscope on a screen you can see. Wax is one of the commonest reasons people think their hearing has gone, and we can remove it the same day.

3 · We test properly

Eardrum movement, the quietest sounds you hear across the speech range, and how clearly you make out words rather than beeps.

4 · You leave with the answer

Results explained in plain English on the spot, with a written copy. No sales pitch waiting at the end.
